Future Ready CHARLOTTE
Expanding Opportunity. Strengthening Communities. Preparing the Next Generation.
Future Ready CHARLOTTE is the framework guiding our regional expansion—aligning youth development, education, and workforce readiness across a connected network of communities facing shared challenges and shared opportunity.
What We Mean by the Charlotte Region
When we refer to the Charlotte Region, we are describing a connected community of young people and families—not just a city center.
The region encompasses the vibrant urban neighborhoods of East Charlotte and the growing community of Mint Hill, all deeply interconnected through the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system and shared pathways to opportunity. Currently, our footprint is strategically located within five CMS sites—including Albemarle Road, Grove Park, Mint Hill, and Northridge—communities whose futures rise and fall together.
Our presence is intentionally school-based, designed to meet young people exactly where they live, learn, and grow. By operating where students already are, we transform familiar school environments into spaces of co-creation, leadership, and belonging.
Why CHARLOTTE? Why Now?
Across the Charlotte Region, thousands of young people are growing up in communities with uneven access to high-quality out-of-school programming and intentional skill development.
In our state, over 664,000 children are waiting for an afterschool spot, with the need being greatest in our Title I school communities. We know what works: seeing young people as co-creators of their journey and providing consistent access to safe spaces and caring mentors.
Our commitment to Charlotte is to deliver that impact— ensuring every child has the pathways and support they need for a successful launch into adulthood.
Youth Development as Economic Mobility
Future Ready Charlotte is not only about serving more youth. It is an
economic mobility strategy for the entire region.
Sustained engagement in Boys & Girls Clubs is linked to:
• Improved third-grade reading proficiency
• Reduced chronic absenteeism
• Lower juvenile justice involvement
• Higher rates of graduation and postsecondary success
Over time, these outcomes translate into higher lifetime earnings,
public cost savings, and a stronger regional workforce.
